Brainstorming Ideas:
June 25th 2019
After evaluating my strengths and weaknesses, I shortlisted 3 ideas for my personal project. I feel that I have a genuine interest in technology and sustainability therefore I based my ideas mainly around technology or sustainability.
Ideas:
• Self-driving car made using Raspberry Pi and Python: The vehicle would be used to deliver medicine to places located in outer areas where very there is very limited medical relief.
• Fully solar powered greenhouse: This greenhouse will be 100% sustainable and will only run-on solar power. It will be used to grow fresh produce in all weather conditions.
• Food Delivery Drone: A drone used to deliver fast food in a very quick and safe way, to minimize the amount of traffic caused by delivery bikes and cars.
These ideas are the ones that I feel are the most achievable while still being challenging and impactful. All 3 of these ideas have some connection to sustainability and technology, therefore enabling me to take up a challenging personal project idea in a topic that I am passionate about. All three shortlisted topics will need to be evaluated before I can choose which one to move forward with. I will evaluate each topic with its pros and cons, factors like cost, user friendliness, achievability etc., making sure to cover all aspects, and finally deciding on the best possible option.
ATL Skills:
Critical Thinking Skills: I used my critical thinking skills to think of different project ideas, and how they can be relevant to the times we live in. I also used my critical thinking skills to evaluate how challenging each topic is, and to see if they are achievable or not. I also thought about the carbon footprint of my product and the feasibility of using renewable energy to reduce environmental impact.
Creative Thinking Skills: I used my creative thinking skills, to come up with different sustainable design ideas, and create the most suitable design.

Choosing a Topic and Global Context:
June 30th 2019
Choosing a Topic:
After evaluating all three topics I decided that topic number 2 was the best choice. Food production and growing my own food is something that I have always been passionate about. Growing my own produce in my backyard is one of my favorite past times, and another reason why I am very excited to pursue this topic.
Advantages:
• Topic number 2 is related to both my passion towards technology and sustainability.
• Topic Number 2 is a fun and challenging project that solves a real-world problem.
• Topic Number 2 is a new field that I am yet to explore.
Disadvantages:
• The creation of the product is a very lengthy and difficult process.
The pros and cons listed above are only some of the many that influenced my decision in choosing this topic. As seen above, this topic is related to two fields that I am very much interested in. It is also a very fun project that is very hands on as it involves building a greenhouse and growing produce. Finally, it is also part of a new field that I haven’t learnt much about, meaning that I can explore new areas and learn more about solar energy and sustainable production. After deliberating with my family members and peers, I decided to choose the global context ‘Globalization and Sustainability’ for my personal project. This GC is the most relatable to my topic. My topic is about sustainable food production and enabling people around the world to grow their own fresh produce at home in order to alleviate the global problem of food shortage. With rapid population growth, food scarcity is expecting to a major challenge in the future due to climate change and urbanization. Given that my topic and product are related to both globalization and sustainability, my chosen global context is highly relevant.
ATL Skill:
Communication Skills: I used my communication skills to get the opinions and feedback from my peers , supervisor, as well as my family members on my chosen topic and global context. I was also able interview the owner of a farm in UAE and some users, create my process journal and write a detailed personal project report using my communication skills.
